About the Producer

Tarekech Werasa has been producing coffee on her 4.9-hectare farm since 1990. Like many smallholder producers in Ethiopia, she farms organically and processes her coffee using the natural method.

For many years, Tarekech relied on brokers to sell her crops and she wasn’t always paid what she was owed. Her situation vastly improved when Ethiopia’s direct trade regulations changed in 2018. Tarekech subsequently joined the Lalisaa Project, a three-year program that provides resources and training to help producers improve their growing and processing practices and, ultimately, the quality and yield of their coffee. Many participating farmers have already recorded a big improvement in quality and, like Tarekech, have been able to receive higher premiums for their coffees.

It’s extremely rare and special to be able to trace an Ethiopian coffee to a single producer, and we’re thrilled to have this vibrant and complex coffee on offer. Tarekech takes great pride in her coffee and says that anyone who tastes it will fall in love with it. We couldn’t agree more!
